Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - January 8, 2009
NORFOLK - Wilhelmina Dinkins Smith, 96, passed away peacefully Jan. 6, 2009, 
in a Richmond hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Augustus 
Smith. 

She leaves to cherish her loving memory two children: daughter, Valerie 
Rhodes and husband Andre and son, William (Gus) Smith and wife Odessa, also 
of Richmond; three grandchildren, Kemba Smith, Angelique Greene and April 
Roberts; five great-grandchildren, Armani Smith, Justice Johnson, Julianna 
Roberts, Alexander Greene and Naman Roberts; and a special nephew, Thaddeus 
Coleman Jr. and wife Shirley of Holbrook, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, 
nephews, cousins and friends. 

She was educated in Norfolk Public Schools and retired from Lane Bryant. 
Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member, deaconess and a member of the Golden Years 
Club at Mount Olive Baptist Church and an active member of the community. 
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Hale Funeral 
Home, 2100 Ballentine Blvd. A funeral will be conducted Saturday at noon in 
Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2401 Ludlow St. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olive 
Baptist Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
