Zion Baptist Church. The Rev. W. O. Deloatche and the Rev. A. R. Powell will officiate. He died March 24 in Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital. A native of Southampton county, he was the husband of Mrs. Inez Smith and a son of Phillip and Mrs. Mary Smith. He retired from St. Julians Creek Naval Ammunition Depot after 31 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was a member of Tree of Life Lodge, Buffaloes of the World, Grand United Order of Odd Fellows, St. Mary’s Household 8 and Evening Star Lodge 1, and a former member of Baltimore Union. Besides his widow, surviving are two sons, Silas Smith Jr. of Norfolk and Edward Lee Smith of Onley; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy S. Bell of Norfolk; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors. B. F. King Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will assemble at 1243 Marshall avenue.
