The Virginian Pilot Friday Aug. 28, 1959
NORFOLK - Walter Edward Smith, 80, husband of Mrs. Laura Griffin Smith and son 
of John H. and Mrs. Josephine Waterfield Smith, died Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at 
the residence, 6040 Newport Crescent.
Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, W. Tilford Smith of Newport News 
and Paul Lee Smith of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Miss Margaret Lee Smith of 
Norfolk and a grandson, W. Tilford Smith Jr. of Newport News.
Mr. Smith was a native of Knotts Island, N.C. and had been a resident of Norfolk 
for 62 years.
He was a member of the Chesterfield Heights Methodist Church and before his 
retirement was foreman for the Norfolk & Southern Railroad.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Saturday 
at noon.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
