Smith, one of the best known and highly esteemed young men of South Norfolk, died yesterday morning at 7:30 o'clock at his home, 65 Chesapeake avenue, after an illness of over two years. The deceased was a well known mill man, having been employed from time to time by the principal lumber companies of this section. He was in the 26th year of his age. He was a native of Raleigh, N.C., but had been living here for the past seven years. He was lately married to Miss Gussie Parker, who survives him. He also leaves three brothers, Burke, Floyd and Robert Smith; also six sisters, Mrs. W.J. Dixon, of Chattanooga, Tenn; Misses Blanch, Irene, Ada, Pattie and Thelma Smith. The funeral takes place from the above residence this afternoon at 4 o'clock and will be conducted by the Rev. W.A. Smith, pastor of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church. The interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery. ************************************************************* The funeral of Hubert Flake (Hubard Flora) Smith was conducted from the residence, 65 Chesapeake avenue, South Norfolk yesterday afternoon. Rev. W.A. Smith, pastor of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church, officiated and was assisted by Rev. C.S. Pierce, pastor of the South Norfolk Baptist church. The attendance was very large and the floral tributes were numerous and beautiful. The interment was in Magnolia cemetery. The pall-bearers were from Tidewater Council, No. 30, Jr. O.U.A.M., of which the deceased was a member: W.T. Lane, J.E. Grimes, L.H. Goldman, P.S. Roper and Citizens H.G Perry, J.P. Whitehead, Fred Lupsay and H.C. Wilder.
