M. SMITH SUCCUMBS Berkley Civic and Business Man Dies at Hospital After Brief Illness Frank Marion Smith, president of the Atlantic Permanent Building and Loan Association and a leader in the business and civic life of Berkley for half a century, died last night at 7:15 o'clock at a local hospital after an illness of two days. He was 74 years old. A native of Norfolk County, Mr. Smith had resided in this section all his life. He had been associated with the Atlantic Permanent Building and Loan Association more than 40 years and had been its president a number of years. He was a member of Memorial Methodist Church and of Doric lodge 44, A.F. & A.M. of Berkley. Mr. Smith was a son of Samuel J. and Mrs. Sarah Old Smith. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mollie Lordley Smith; a son, Cecil F. Smith, of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Jennings, of South Norfolk and Mrs. E.A. Patteson, of Norfolk; three brothers, S.J. Smith, of New York City, V.L. Smith of South Norfolk and W.A. Smith of Dayton, Ohio and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will be taken from the Cox Funeral Home to Memorial Methodist Church for funeral services tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Dewey B. Mullins, pastor, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. David C. George, rector of St. Bride's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in the family plot in Magnolia Cemetery. *************************************************************** SMITH, FRANK MARION - Of 301 East Indian River Road, at a local hospital, Thursday night, September 14, 1939, at 7:15 o'clock, FRANK MARION SMITH, husband of Mrs. Mollie Lordley Smith and son of the late Samuel J. and Sarah Old Smith, aged 74 years. The body will be taken from the Cox Funeral Home, 631 Westover Avenue, to Memorial Methodist Church for funeral services THIS (Saturday) AFTERNOON at 3:30 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, Magnolia Cemetery.
