Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark August 26, 1913

David Young Smith, 55 years old, until a few years ago a resident of Norfolk 
County, died Monday morning at his home in Philadelphia after a brief 
illness.
He was a son of Mrs. Sarah E. Smith and the late Samuel J. Smit of Norfolk 
County.  He is survived by a widow Mrs. Bettie Watson Smith and the 
following children: Elvington Smith, Maywood Smith, Mrs. Maud Nesmith, 
Herman H. Smith, Miss Vera Smith, Miss Mary Smith, Carlton Smith and Miss 
Loretta Smith of Philadelphia ad the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. 
G.T. Jennings, Oscar, S.J., F.M., V.L., and Miss Georgia Smith of Berkley.
The body will arrive here via the New York, Philadelphia and Norfolk 
railroad this morning at 9:05 o'clock and will be taken to the home of his 
brother, V.L. Smith, 121 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk. The funeral 
service will take place at the above residence this afternoon at 5 o'clock. 
Rev. C.E. Pleasants will conduct the services and burial will be in Magnolia 
Cemetery.
