The Virginian-Pilot, Sunday, December 31, 1961

NORFOLK - Mrs. Janie Smith, 70, of 1226 Auburn Ave. died Saturday at 5 a.m. in a 
Norfolk hospital after a short illness.

She was a native of Charles City County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George 
Green and the widow of the Rev. Willie Smith. She had lived in Norfolk 50 years.

She is survived by a son, Willie L. Smith, and a daughter, Mrs. Elnora Riddick, 
both of Norfolk.

The body was taken to Hale Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 
Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Oakwood Chapel, A.M.E. Church by the Rev. J.T. Jones. 
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
