Emeline E. Smith, 87, of the 1300 block of Laurel Crescent, died Aug. 23, 2001, 
after a brief illness in Sentara Leigh Hospital.

A native of Norfolk, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Anthony Eardley and 
Ada Kayatt Eardley and the widow of Tom C. Smith Sr. Em was an active member of 
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and she spent her life busily making others 
happy.

Survivors include a son, Tom C. Smith Jr. and his wife, Kay; two grandchildren, 
Kristen M. Smith and Tommy C. Smith III and his wife, Diane; and one great-
grandchild, Annabelle Renee Smith; two sisters, Gloria Ann Topp and Virginia 
Eardley.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament 
Catholic Church by Father Joseph H. Metzger III. Interment will follow at St. 
Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 
p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Building Fund. 
H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
