Virginia Beach - Lucy D. Smith, 84, of the 4100 block of Thalia Station Circle, 
passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2016 in Virginia Beach, VA. She was born in 
Clemons, North Carolina on January 12, 1932. Lucy retired from the US Postal 
Office in 1992 as a Postal Worker. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High 
School and was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.

She is predeceased by her parents Decator D. Dowell and Frankie Mae Johnson; sons, 
Reuben A. Heiligh, Jr. and Boris Smith; brother, Joseph T. Dowell; sisters, 
Margaret Pittman, Emma Jean Lawson; nephew, Roland Dowell.

Left to cherish her memory is one daughter, Beverly A. Heiligh-Pabon; two sisters, 
Katherine D. Long, Melinda Harris-Peoples; one brother, Henry F. Dowell; 
grandchildren, Jamie(Kini), Anthony Robert, Anthony "Tee", Phillip(Olga), Tomika, 
Andre(Mikaela), Antoine and Derrick; great-grandchildren, James Justin, Danielle, 
Niyiin, Selah, Niylah, Chloe, Christian, Jada, Adriana, Aniya, Derrick, Jr.; 
special love ones aunt, Ruby Keaton, cousin, Betty Barksdale, nieces, Rita Brown, 
Yvette Frazier, daughter-in-law, Susan T. Smith and a host of other relatives and 
friends.

Wake service will be held from 4pm-8pm, Metropolitan, Granby Chapel. Family and 
friends will assemble at 4101 Thalia Station Circle, Virginia Beach, VA. one hour 
prior to service for procession to the church. A funeral service will be held 
11am, Friday, October 14, 2016, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia 
Beach, VA., Rev. John Peck, O.S.B., officiating. Burial at St. Mary's Catholic 
Cemetery.
