"Vee" Smith, 95, passed away Jan. 14, 2010. The Lord has taken away from us a beautiful and loving mother, who loved her twin sons as well as her many friends; she will truly be missed. Mrs. Smith was born in Norfolk, to the late Vincent and Angelina DeCosi. She attended St. Mary's Academy in Norfolk and was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church for 46 years. Mrs. Smith worked at Balbans Deli, People's Drug Store, Moores Nut House and retired from Reisner's Deli after 25 years of service. She also received the Employee of the Month award while working at Pembroke Mall. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Leo J. Trovato; her second husband, Silas Smith; her sister, Mary Louise DeCosi; her brothers, Al J. DeCosi and Joseph F. DeCosi; and a nephew, Vincent R. DeCosi. Survivors include her twin sons, Joseph V. and Paul A. Trovato, both of Virginia Beach; a niece, Frances Versprille of Norfolk; a nephew, Vincent Morello of Pennsylvania; three great- nephews, one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church by Father Mario Fulgenzi, O.S.B. The burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Norfolk. A rosary will be said at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, Sunday at 7 p.m. followed by a visitation until 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to St. Gregory's Building Fund, the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Association.
