She was a native of Edenton, N.C., and the daughter of Joshua and Sarah Thompson. She was the widow of Arthur W. Smith. Mrs. Smith had been employed in the bakery department of the Giant Open Air Market, the dietary department of Old Dominion University and a former member of the United Order of Tents. She was a kind, gentle and loving mother who will be sorely missed by family and friends alike. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Thompson and Jennifer Worsley and her husband, Floyd; two sons, Howard Smith and his wife, Joyce, and Brian Keith Knight and his wife, Kanita. She will also be missed by seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a special friend and companion, Roy Hines. A funeral will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Riddick Funeral Service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be at the residence.
