Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, August 19, 1991 
Elbert Benton Smith, of the 900 block of Kenton Avenue, died Aug. 17, 1991, in
his home.

Mr. Smith was born in Norfolk. He had retired from the Norfolk Naval Supply
Center as a supervisor and equipment specialist after 34 years. He also had
retired from the Norfolk Treasurer's Office as a clerk after seven years. He was
a former member of Grace Episcopal Church and St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He
attended St. Paul's College and was a member of the Norfolk chapter of the St.
Paul's College Alumni Association.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie M. Smith; two daughters, Sherly S. Fleming
of Norfolk and Rita S. Merriman of Laurel, Md.; two sons, Elbert B. Smith and
Richard M. Smith, both of Norfolk; two sisters, Vivian S. Barnes of New York and
Minnie Smith of Norfolk; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Riddick Funeral
Service by the Rev. Warren Singleton. Friends may join the family at the
residence and at 12:45 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
