WORTHY SMITH He Breathed His Last at St. Vincent's Last Night The Virginian is pained to announce the death of Robert Worthington Smith, which occurred, after more than a week's illness, at St. Vincent's Hospital last night at a quarter past 9 o'clock. Mr. Smith, at the time he was stricken with his last illness, was in charge of the Ocean View Hotel, from which place he was removed to the hospital about one week ago. For many years he was engaged in business in this city and was well known in this community for his gentle and cordial manner. His genuine affability won him many and warm friends among all with whom he was thrown. When about 17 years of age he entered the Confederate army and served as a member of the Fifteenth Virginia Cavalry till the close of the war, winning the esteem of his comrades and the respect of his superior officers. In 1869 he married Miss Lucretia Johnson, a daughter of the late Charles Johnson, who, with their children, a son and two daughters, survive him. Surrounded by his family he passed away peacefully without a struggle, leaving many relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
