Norfolk Virginian Pilot January 9, 1944

Herbert Livingston Smith, Jr., aged 65, of Virginia Beach, son of the late 
Herbert L. and Mrs. Henrietta Garrett Smith, a native of Norfolk County, and a 
life-long resident of this section, died at 7:30 o’clock yesterday morning at 
a local hospital. He is survived by a son, Herbert L. Smith, 3rd, of Virginia 
Beach, a sister, Mrs. Charles F. Spotswood, of Norfolk, and two brothers, 
Arthur R. Smith, of Washington, and H. Garrett Smith of Virginia Beach.
Services will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments this afternoon at 2 
o’clock, with the Rev. Stiles B. Lines, rector of Galilee Episcopal Church, 
Virginia Beach, officiating. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Norfolk.
