Coke Smith will take place from the Granby Street Methodist Church today at 11 o’clock and will be very largely attended. A meeting of the High School Pupils was held yesterday to adopt resolutions of sympathy and respect. During the meeting a committee of girls appeared and asked to be allowed to unite with the boys in the purchase of flower offerings, and were allowed to give this evidence of their esteem for the manly and much loved boy, whose life was so suddenly taken, The meeting adopted the following resolutions: Whereas, We, the students of the Norfolk High School in special session assembled, have heard with unspeakable regret and real pain of the sudden death of our friend and schoolmate, A. Coke Smith, Jr., and desiring to give formal expression to our feelings in regard to the sad event; therefore be it Resolved, That the death of our comrade and schoolfellow the High School has lost one of its brightest and most beloved pupils, one who had already reflected credit upon the school and whose future gave promise of a still brighter career; the we recognize in our departed friend a youth of many virtues, courteous graces and chivalrous nature were blended in suck sweet accord as to call forth our highest admiration; that as a friend of all and to all, his presence among us was an was an inspiration and influence for good that we shall sorely miss; that we bear testimony to his scholarly attainments, his faithfulness to duty, and his purity of character; that we shall cherish his memory and strive to emulate those virtues that shone so brightly in his brief life; and be it further Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be sent to his grief-stricken family with assurance of our sincere sympathy and tender condolences; that the resolution be published in the daily paper and spread on the school register, and that as a final mark of sorrow and respect we attend his funeral services and follow his remains to the grave Herbert L. Smith, Jr., Chairman Brumley Lankford, Theodore Rogers, Jr., Harry L. Hodges, W. Hampton Hayes, Armistead Dorie, Committee. The school children will occupy one of the galleries, wich shall be reserved for them. The services will be conducted by Rev. Mr. Bennett, assisted by Rev. Drs. Garland and Tudor. The interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Sunday morning the Granby Street School will hold a memorial service when appropriate addresses will be delivered.
