The funeral of Mrs. Mary C. Smith, wife of Peter Smith, was held at St. Mary’s 
Catholic church at 10:30 a.m. yesterday and was numerously attended. Requiem mass 
was celebrated by Rev. John J. Doherty, pastor of the church. During the 
obsequies, Mrs. James Hughes sang, “Lead Kindly Light.” The following additional 
priests occupied seats in the sanctuary: Rev. E. J. Walsh of St. Mary’s, Rev. F. 
J. Lucke of St. Vincent’s hospital, Rev. Joseph Waring of St. Joseph’s church, 
Rev. A. J Halblieb of Sacred Heart church, Rev. J. A. Kelliher of the Italian 
church, Rev. Hugh McKeefry of Richmond and Rev. J. C. McGurk, C.S.Sp., 
of_Philadelphia. The casket was covered with a lovely pall of smilax and roses. 
The interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery.
The following were the pall-bearers: F. W. McCullough, M. W. Talbot, V. Paul 
Ellis, B. McNally, Dr. P. St. L. Moncure, William Grandy, Hon. W. R. Mayo and 
James Smith.
