Smith Jr. The funeral rites of this gentleman were solemnized at the Cumberland Street Methodist Episcopal Church yesterday afternoon at 8:30 o’clock, the spacious edifice being crowded to its utmost capacity. Revs. E.M. Peterson the pastor, W.E. Edwards and R.M Saunders conducted the impressive services, the latter delivering an appropriate sermon, after which the procession formed in the following order. 1. Uniformed corps, Norfolk Lodge No 9, K. of P., headed by the Naval Post Band 2. Uniformed members of Norfolk Lodge No. 9 K. of P. 3. Charity Lodge No. 10, K. of P., of Norfolk 4. Atlantic Lodge No. 2, K. of P., of Portsmouth 5. 5 Portsmouth Lodge No. 16, K. of P., of Portsmouth 6. Blues’ Memorial and Benevolent Association 7. 7 Washington Lodge No. 2, I.O.O.F. 8. Jerusalem Encampment No. 4, I.O.O.F 9. Carriages containing relatives and friends of the deceased When everything was in readiness the procession moved up Cumberland Street to Elmwood Cemetery, the following gentlemen acting as pallbearers, Virginius H. Barns, of the Uniformed Corps No. 9, K. of P.; H.F. Jordan of Norfolk Lodge No. 9, K. of P; Robert W. Pettit and Edward J. Pettit, of Washington Lodge No. 2, I.O.O.F.; Samuel H. Hofflin and Joseph Engelburg of Jerusalem Encampment, No. 4, I.O.O.F.; A.J. Goodrich and M.C. Keeling, of the Blues’ Memorial and Benevolent Association. Arriving at the grave the remains were consigned to their last resting place with the burial services of the church and of the orders to which deceased belonged.
