NORFOLK - Annie Lee (Spain) Smith, 82, of the 1200 block of Tidewater Drive, 
died Oct. 18, 2007. Born in Pitt County, North Carolina, she was a member of the 
usher board and a visitors' hostess at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. She 
was a member of Huntersville Senior Citizens Group and was educated in the Pitt 
County Public School system. She was predeceased by her mother, Mattie Spain and 
father, John Spain. 

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Jones (Robert); five sons, Matthew 
Smith, Edward Smith, Maurice Smith (Pamela), Keith Smith (Shana), all of Norfolk 
and Willie Smith (Kelita) of Chesapeake; three sisters, Cora Butler and Verna 
Mae Beverly, both of Norfolk and Doris Miles of Chesapeake; three brothers, 
Andrew Spain of Chesapeake, Murray Spain of Boston and Charles Spain of Norfolk; 
11 grandchildren, Dawn, Tony, Matthew Jr., Fatima, Maya, Maurissa, Jessica, Tee, 
Keyshon, Kevin and Keith; nine great-grandchildren; one devoted nephew, Andrew 
Spain Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. 

A funeral will be held at noon Thursday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 
Norfolk, with the Rev. Dr. Freddie Johnson officiating. Burial will be in 
Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home is in charge. www.halefuneralhome.com.
