Funeral services for Mrs. Saphronia Smith, 72, of 1610 E. Olney road, were 
scheduled to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. The Rev. 
F. P. Wise will officiate and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Sunday in a Norfolk hospital after a long illness.

She was the daughter of William and Mrs. Matilda Birt, and widow of Hyman Smith. 
She was a native of Washington, NC, and had lived here for more than 25 years.

She retired May 31 after 15 years as a Civil Service employee at the Norfolk 
Naval Base. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Spencer Smith of Norfolk; one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte 
Jones of Norfolk; one sister, Mrs. Mary Thompson of New Bern, NC; five 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Kings Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
