He was the husband of Mrs. Sally Smithey. A World War II veteran, he was attached to the Army Military Intelligence. He was a certified pathologist. In Norfolk he was a member of Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church. Other survivors include five daughters, Miss Phyllis Smithey of the Law School, Georgetown University, Washington, Miss Philippa Smithey of Morehouse College, Atlanta, Miss Marian Palmer Smithey of Howard University, Washington, and Misses Tracey Smithey and Leslie Smithey of Wilkes-Barre; two sons, Thomas Smithey and Philip Smithey of Morehouse College, Atlanta. Also a sister, Mrs. Georgia Smithey Johnson of Portsmouth, VA; and a brother, Dr. Robert A. Smithey of Norfolk. The body is being sent to Riddick Funeral Service, Norfolk, where visitation will be Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Bank Street Memorial Church by the Rev. James C. Griffin. Burial, with military honors, will be in Calvary Cemetery. The body will be in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday. In Norfolk, the family will be at the home of Dr. Marian Palmer Capps of 968 Anna St. and also at the home of Dr. Robert A.
