Norfolk - Final rites were held Monday in New Calvary Baptist Church for 
Columbus Smith Jr., of 713 W. 37th street.  Officiating at the rites was the 
Rev. Milton A. Reid.  Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery with Hale Funeral 
Home in charge.

A native of Norfolk County, he was a son of Mrs. Eula A. and  the late 
Columbus Smith Sr. and the husband of Mrs. Ruth F. Smith.  Mr. Smith, a member 
of Longshoreman Local 1248 for 18 years, was also a member of New Calvary 
Baptist Church.

Also surviving are one son, Junius Columbus Smith of Norfolk;  three brothers, 
Raymond and Samuel Smith, both of Westhaven, CT, and the Rev. Oliver Smith of 
Franklin MA;  and four sisters, Mrs. Marion Brown of Chesapeake, Mrs. Ethel 
Haynes of Hampton, Mrs. Geraldine Gatlin of Norfolk, and Mrs. Amelia Macklin 
of New Haven CT.
