Norfolk - Vernon M. Smith Jr., 79, of 717 Graydon Ave., a native of Norfolk,
died Monday in Norfolk.

Mr Smith had retired from a job in the city of Norfolk water department. He was
a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include four cousins, Mary Smith and C. Emette Adams III, both of
Portsmouth, and Benjamin O. Royall and Virginia Royall, both of Norfolk.

The graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Elmwood Cemetery
by the Rev. Charles A. Joy. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, is in charge.

Memorial donations may be sent to a charity of the donor's choice.
