Snowden Dies; Former DMV Officer
Managed Norfolk Branch; Funeral Tomorrow, 2 P.M.

William Edward Snowden, 73, former manager here of the Virginian Division of 
Motor Vehicles office, died yesterday at 3:30 p.m. at his residence, 200 Sir 
Oliver Rd.
Since 1952, Mr. Snowden had been associated with the John S. Copeland Motor Co. 
of Norfolk as office manager.
He originally was an agent in the DMV and State Police headquarters here in the 
1930's. He became manager in 1939 and retained the post the ensuing 12 years, 
when he left State employ for the automobile business.
A native of Norfolk, he was the husband of Mrs. Sadie C. Snowden and son of 
Edward F. and Mrs. Sarah Cone Snowden.
Active in Fraternities
Over the years, he had been active in fraternal life of the city. He was past 
master of Elizabeth Lodge 34, A.F. & A.M., and was a member of John Walters 
Royal Arch Chapter 68, Grice Commandery 16, Knights Templar, and Auld 
Consistory Scottish Rite, Khedive Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. He also was past patron 
of Virginia Chapter 22, Order of the Eastern Star; Norfolk Lodge 38, B.P.O. 
Elks, Charity Lodge 10, Knights of Pythias; the Police Fire Square Club and the 
Virginia Beach Shrine Club.
Besides his wife, surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John S. Copeland and Mrs. 
James C. Moss, and one brother Lloyd S. Snowden, all of Norfolk; four 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Hollomon-Brown 
Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery
