NORFOLK - Joseph Southall Sr. of 809 Avenue A, the husband of Mrs. Elenora G.
Southall and retired from the Navy and also from Civil Service, died Friday in
Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

He had 54 years of combined federal service at retirement. He was a native of
Murfreesboro, N.C.

He was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church, the Fleet Reserve Association, and
Bachelor Benedict Social Club.

Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Hattie S. Boughes of Chesapeake; a son,
Joseph Southall Jr. of Norfolk; three sisters, Mrs. Junned S. Overton of Brooklyn,
Mrs. Julian S. Lewis and Mrs. Hattie B. Gatling of Norfolk; five grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Queen Street Baptist Church by the Rev.
J. Jasper Freeman. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. A Wake will be held in
Pretlow's Funeral Home Monday nigh from 7 to 8.
