CHESAPEAKE - Hortense Southall , 84, a native of Norfolk, peacefully passed away
Jan. 7, 2011.

She was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Rev. Collin P. and Maggie Sue Madison,
five brothers and two sisters. Hortense is survived by her daughters, Eleanor
Futrell (Marvin), Andrea Southall and Carolyn Baker (Isiaah); five
grandchildren, Marvin Futrell III, Karen Worthen (Eric), Kristin Sturgis
(William), Renard Baker and Felecia Baker; five great- grandchildren, James
Worthen III, Antwon Sturgis, Arian Sturgis, Ayanna Sturgis and Andre Sturgis;
two sisters, Bishop Lucille Mays and Shelby Taylor; a host of nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.

Hortense was educated in the Norfolk Public Schools and furthered her education
at Howard University and North Carolina Central University. She was a retired
civil service employee from the Naval Supply Center, Norfolk.

A funeral celebrating Hortense's life will be held at noon, Jan. 12, in Second
Calvary Baptist Church with the Dr. Rev. Geoffrey V. Guns presiding. Hale
