Virginian Pilot December 17, 1986

Nettie Virginia Southgate, 89, of the 6200 block of Powhatan Ave. died Dec. 16, 
1986, in a hospital. 
Miss Southgate, a Norfolk native, was a former member of the boards of directors 
of the Norfolk Protestant Hospital, now Norfolk General Hospital, the Young 
Women's Christian Association, and the Needlework Guild of America.
She was an organizer of the Federation of Missionary Societies and a member of 
Epworth United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Maury High School.
Survivors include a brother, Dr. Herbert S. Southgate of Black Mountain, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Epworth United Methodist 
Church by the Revs. James L. Duley and Harris Kessler. Burial will be in Elmwood 
Cemetery. The family will be at Cox Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.  
Memorial donations may be made to the church's renovation fund.
