Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark Wednesday May 25, 1927
Mrs. Mattie Sawyer Spady, aged 56, died at her residence 614 Maltby avenue, 
yesterday afternoon at 5:50 o'clock after an illness of three months. She 
was the wife of C.F. Spady and daughter of the late John and Martha Holland 
Sawyer, a native of Perquimans County, N.C., and a resident of Norfolk for 
the past 40 years.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Spady leaves a son, F.A. Satchell; one 
brother, Cephas Meads; a sister, Mrs. Florence Wood, and two grandchildren, 
all of Norfolk. The body will be taken from the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & 
Brother, 631 Westover avenue, to the residence where funeral services will 
be held tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
