Mrs. Spady was born in Robersonville, N.C. She was the daughter of the late William Brown and the late Bessie Combs. She was also the widow of the late Alexander Spady. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Link St., Norfolk, where she was a member of the senior usher and missionary boards. She was also a retired domestic worker. Survivors include her beloved grandson, Jerry C. Spady and his wife, Laurell W. Spady of Virginia Beach; sister, Eleanor Ore of Robersonville; two daughters, Mrs. Lossie Ray Cary of Detroit and Mrs. Chrisonda Boone of Norfolk; two adopted daughters, Ms. Blanche Dixon of Norfolk and Ms. Rosetta Parker of Virginia Beach; two sons-in-law, Mr. Roosevelt Cary of Detroit and Mr. Daniel Boone of Norfolk; five other grandsons, Gordon, Craig, Scott, Doug and Bruce Cary, all of Detroit; three granddaughters, Tina and Christa of Detroit and Starsha Boone of Norfolk; a great-grandson, Jerry C. Spady Jr. of Virginia Beach; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. Berbard Branch. Burial will be in Calvary Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at Hale Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday and also at 628 Timon Court, Apt. 101, Virginia Beach, at all other times. Family and friends will assemble at 628 Timon Court for a funeral procession at noon Tuesday. There will be a wake Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
