Virginian Pilot March 23, 1909

Joseph Spalding, who had been under treatment at St. Vincent's Hospital, died at 
that institution Sunday in the fifty-third year of his age. The obsequies will 
be held from the apartments of Funeral Director H.C. Smith, 179 Bank Street, at 
3 o'clock this afternoon.

The funeral of Joseph Spalding was held from the apartments of Funeral Director, 
H.C. Smith, 179 Bank Street, at 3 o'clock p.m. yesterday and was conducted by 
Rev. George W. Cox of Burrows Memorial Baptist Church, Lamberts Point. Interment 
was in Elmwood Cemetery.
