The Norfolk Virginian, June 30, 1896 
The remains of Mrs. Elizabeth Spann, aged 85, arrived here yesterday from 
Williamsburg, where she died Sunday. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon 
at the grave in Elmwood and was conducted by Rev. W. D. Smith, of St. Peter’s 
Episcopal Church. Deceased was the stepmother of Messrs. W.W. and C. H. Spann 
of this ward.
