A native of Fentress, she lived in this area all her life. She was the widow of William Henry Speight and a daughter of John Henry and Mrs. Lydia A. Sykes. She was a member of Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church and its Ladies Bible Class, Three Score and Ten Club, National Auxiliary to United Spanish War Veterans, Maj. Marshall Tarrall Camp I, and Daughters of America. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. J.E. Brown of Chesapeake and Mrs. E.R. Battles of Norfolk; a sister, Mrs. T.C. Hollowell of Rockingham, N.C.; two brothers, Maywood B. Sykes of Norfolk and W.A. Sykes of Fredericksburg; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Chesapeake Avenue Methodist Church by the Rev. Lyle H. Youell and the Rev. Hugh B. Mason. Burial will be in Magnolis Cemetery, Norfolk. The body will be taken from Francis A.
