A native of Hickory, Norfolk County, he was a son of the late James Edward and Mrs. Bessie Spence. He worked for the public Works Department of Norfolk Naval Base 28 years. He was an usher of First Calvary Baptist Church. Besides his widow, surviving are four sons, Linwood Spence Jr., Carver Lee Spence, and Conway Spence of Norfolk and Air Force Pfc. Alwin Spence of Grand Fork AFB, N.D.; two daughters, Mrs. Sarah Floyd of Baltimore and Miss Angela Spence of Norfolk; a brother, James W. Spence of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Syndnor and Mrs. Jennie Lee Dix of Baltimore; and 10 grandchildren. The body was taken to Graves Funeral Home.
