Mr. Spence was a native of Norfolk. He was a brickmason and a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Basilica church. He graduated from Hampton University with a B.A. He is survived by his mother, Bertha Spence; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Cokely; four brothers, Keith Spence, and James Jackson, all of Norfolk, Dr. Brandon Spence of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Bryan K. Spence of Southgate, Mich.; an aunt, Mable W. Tate of Buffalo, N.Y.; a godfather, Thomas J. Ring; a godbrother, Phillip Robinson, both of Norfolk; and a host of other relatives and friends. A wake will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. today at Metropolitan Funeral Services, Granby Street Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday by Father John Dorgan at St. Mary's Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. for the service.
