Spence were conducted at the St. John AME Church Thursday, Aug. 13, by the Rev. W. L. Hildebrand, pastor. Mr. Spence died at his home, 1409 Colon avenue, Sunday, August 9 after a long illness. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of Henry and Mrs. Ella W. Spence. He had been employed for years as custodian of the Arthur Murray studio. He was a member of the St. John AME Church. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Ophelia M. Spence and Mrs. Ella H. Rhodes, three nephews and a niece, all of Norfolk. Burial was in the family plot at West Point Cemetery. The B. F. King funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
