S. A. Wilson, pastor, was crowded with friends Tuesday, March 6, who came to pay final respect to the late Bennie Spencer. Mr. Spencer died at his home, 1535 Armstrong street, March 2, after an illness of six years. For a number of years he had been employed as a longshoreman, affiliated with Local ILA 1248, AFI. The senior choir of the church sang two favorite hymns of the deceased - “Must Jesus Bear the Cross Alone.” and “My Hope is Built.” Scripture was read by the Rev. C. Walker and prayer was offered by the pastor. Mrs. Frank Wilson rendered a solo accompanied by her husband. The pastor delivered the eulogy. Condolences were read by Mrs. Pearl Holloman, church clerk. Pulpit guests who spoke concerning Mr. Spencer’s life were the Rev. W. O. Deloatch, the Rev. J. Q. A. Lassiter, and the Rev. C. Walker. Survivors include the widow Mrs. Georgia Spencer, step-mother Mrs. Henrietta Spencer; one son, Felton Spencer; two step-daughters, Mrs. Virginia Spencer and Mrs. Ruth Goodman, three sisters, Mrs. Letha Selby, Mrs. Ophelia Barber and Mrs. Lucy Drake; three brothers, Edward, (name smeared), and Charlie Spencer; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Interment took place in Calvary Cemetery with Morning Glory Funeral Home in charge. (name on death certificate: Benjamin J.
