Doris L. Spencer (Patterson) departed this life on July 29, 2022, at her 
daughter's home, surrounded by loved ones. She was predeceased by her husband, 
James W. Spencer. 

Doris was born on October 1, 1931, in Norfolk, VA to Benjamin & Esther 
Patterson. She attended Booker T. Washington High School and was employed as a 
tailor at Cavalier and Liberty Cleaners. She was a long-time member of Olive 
Grove Baptist Church, a member of the usher board and hospitality committee. 

Doris leaves to cherish her memories, her loving son Early Spencer (Peaches), 
daughters Delores Clemons, Joyce Linyear (Dwight), Jennetta Spencer, Judy 
Williams, Shelia Johnson, Shelby Jones (Jonathan), four sisters, one brother, a 
host of grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren and a host of other 
relatives. 

A wake will be held at Metropolitan Funeral Services 7246 Granby Street, 
Norfolk, VA 23505 on Thursday (August 4th) from 4-6pm. Homegoing service will be 
at Olive Grove Baptist Church 1034 Albert Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23513 on Friday 
August 5th @ 12 p.m.
