Mr. Spencer was a native of Norfolk. He also resided in Charlottecourthouse, Va., where he attended Prince Edward High School. He was a retired cement finisher. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and a competitive sportsman. James is survived by his mother, Goldie A. Spencer of Norfolk; grandmother/adopted mother, Ruth Spencer; sisters, Ernestine Spencer and Diane Outlaw and her husband, William, of Norfolk; a brother, Earnhart Spencer and his wife, Georgene, of Chesapeake; godson, Jamal Outlaw; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, especially Mamie Cuffee and John Manns. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Graves Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. James Anderson. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, 535 Nicholson St., Norfolk.
