Mr. Spivey, a retired leading man cook, worked in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was the widower of Hattie B. Spivey and a native of Spring Hope, N.C. Mr. Spivey was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, a member of the Missionary Society, Senior Citizens, Prayer Band and Men's Bible Class. He was also a member of the Campostella Civic League, NAACP and Excelsior Masonic (NU)20.. Survivors include two daughters, Willie Mae Harris of Norfolk and Lula Thornton of Chesapeake; four sons, Thee Artis Spivey Jr. of Norfolk, Trevior Artway Spivey Sr. of Norfolk, Reginald N. Spivey of Norfolk, and Garrie C. Spivey of Virginia Beach; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Thora S. Colden and Beatrice Lewis of Portsmouth; and a nephew, William Spivey of Portsmouth. The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday in First Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. J.L. White. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Friends may join the family at the home of his daughter at 7459 Dakota Ave., Norfolk. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Graves Funeral Home in charge.
