On Nov. 22, 2005, God decided that it was time to add another angel to his army and he called Charity D. Springs home to rest. Mrs. Charity, as she was so affectionately called, resided in the 4600 block of Kincaid St. Mrs. Charity was the widow of Charles M. Springs Sr. She was born to Jimmy and Melissa Doyle in Scotland Neck, N.C., on May 2, 1908. As a member of First Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk, she sang in the Gospel Choir, attended Maggie Davis Sunday School Class and was a member of the Mary D. Long Senior Missionary Circle until her health began to fail her. Mrs. Charity was the last surviving sibling of 21 born to her parents. She was also predeceased by 14 of her own children. Left to rejoice in her homegoing celebration is the Rev. Charles Moody Springs Jr. and wife Phyllis, Herman E. Springs and wife Deborah, Jennie Springs Amison and husband Craig and Dr. Thomas E. Springs II and son Bryce Ellison Springs; longtime caretaker and grandson, Harvie Andrews III and wife Nikki; and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends. A wake will be held Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hale Funeral Home, 2100 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk. The funeral will be held at noon Tuesday at First Calvary Baptist Church, 813 Henry St., Norfolk, by Dr. J.L. White Sr. with interment in Calvary Cemetery.
