She was the widow of Capt. Rufus K. Spry, also an outstanding citizen and business man. Mr. and Mrs. Spry were the founders, 43 years ago, of the R.K. Spry grocery at about the same place as the present store. She was a prominent member of Armstrong Memorial Presbyterian Church and was active in its organization. Mrs. Spry and her husband were life residents of this section and were known in the community for their charity to those in need. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Hattie Sparrow Shipley. Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. W.E. Brite; one son, Rufus K. Spry; one sister, Mrs. Daisy Grimes; one brother, James Shipley, all of Norfolk; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk. Sunday afternoon the body will be taken to the Armstrong Church where it will lie in state for one hour before the funeral at 3:30 o'clock. Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery.
