Norfolk Virginian May 26, 1893

                           Death of an Aged Lady

A telegram was received in the city yesterday, announcing the death at Elmo, Va. 
of Mrs. Susan B. Stakes, wife of the late Jno. Stakes and mother of Mr. J.W. 
Stakes, of this city, aged 73 years. The funeral will take place from the New 
York, Philadelphia and Norfolk depot at 9 a.m. today. The interment will be in 
Elmwood.

The body of Mrs. Susan B. Stakes, wife of the late John B. Stakes and mother of 
Mr. J.W. Stakes, arrived here yesterday morning from Exmore, Va. and was 
interred in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. F.H. Rawlings, of Centenary M.E. Church, 
conducted the service. The pallbearers were: Messrs. L.W. White, J.W. Ames, B.G. 
Pollard, E.B. King, Jos. Vesey, W.B. Barham, J.W. Grandy and W.A. Hays.
