Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Wednesday, April 3, 1996 
Lemuel ``Ray'' Stallings departed this life on March 30, 1996, at DePaul
Hospital, Norfolk, after a short illness.

He was born in Norfolk on Aug. 6, 1949. He attended Norfolk Public Schools and
was employed by the city of Norfolk for over 27 years and was a custodian
supervisor for the last 18 years.

Survivors include his wife, Melba Barbara A. Stallings; his mother, Lydia G.
Stallings; two stepsons, Kenneth A. Pitt and Joseph A. Pitt Jr., all of Norfolk;
a sister, Virginia Stallings of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, John Stallings of New
Bedford, Mass.; a mother-in-law, Eunice N. Ampey of Norfolk; a best friend, Len
W. Evans of Chesapeake; a godson, Anthony T. Vick of Chesapeake; and a host of
other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at New St. Mark Baptist Church,
1136 St. Julian Ave., Norfolk, with the Rev. Elmar Phillips officiating.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery . The body will be placed in the church at
11 a.m. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Hale
Funeral Home.
