Norfolk Ledger Dispatch January 6, 1939

Smith Bedford Stanfield, aged 78, husband of Mrs. Mary E. Stanfield and son of 
Poser and Mrs. Martha Davis Stanfield, died at his residence, B, Wayne 
Apartments, Greenway Court, yesterday afternoon at 4:23 o'clock. Mr. Stanfield 
was a native of Americus, Ga. and a resident of Norfolk for the past 38 years. 
Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. P.M. Brooks, of 
Jacksonville, Fla.; three brothers, Henry Stanfield, of Americus, George 
Stanfield, of Norfolk and Julius Stanfield, of Madison, Conn. and a number of 
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, of which Mr. 
Stanfield was a member, tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. Interment will be in St. 
Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the residence tonight at 8:30 
o'clock.
