Norfolk Virginian Pilot August 1, 1945

Egbert I. ("Bert") Staples, 84, son of the late Edward and Mrs. Frances Harman 
Staples, a native of Staunton and a resident of Norfolk for the past 39 years, 
died at 10 a.m. yesterday at the residence, 1024 Woronoca Avenue, Ocean View. 
Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Carl G. Haesloop, of Washington, D.C.; 
Mrs. Laura Phelps, of Norfolk and Mrs. B. Russell Morton, of West Berkshire, 
Vt.; one son, Edward L. Staples, chief carpenter, USN, of Long Beach, Cal.; 12 
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and an adopted granddaughter, Laura 
Staples Heck. The body will be taken from the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments to 
Holy Trinity Catholic Church; for services Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment will be 
in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary services will be held at the H.D. Oliver Funeral 
Apartments tonight at 7:30 o'clock.
