The Rev. W. J. Acklin, pastor of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, officiated. Members of Masonic Lodge No. 99 conducted rites at the Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Staten, a native of Norfolk, had resided in Suffolk, VA. for approximately ten years. He died in the McGuire Veterans Hospital, Suffolk, August 29. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Germany with the Quartermaster Corps. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 99, and St. Paul Baptist Church, Suffolk. Surviving Mr. Staten are two sisters, Mrs. Carlee Simmons of Brooklyn, NY, and Mrs. Elsie S. Thomas of Detroit MI; two brothers, Eddie A. Staten of New York City and Willis Staten of Norfolk; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
