Mr. Staten was born in Wilmington, N.C. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church. He had been employed with The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star and with the STOP Organization. Survivors include his wife, Marguerite Staten; a daughter, Carla Plummer and a son, Martini Staten, both of Norfolk; four sisters, Doris M. Blizzard of Fayetteville, N.C., and Helen C. Deloatch, Vivian P. Vines and Sheila A. Fields, all of Newport News; a brother, Jamie L. Johnson of Richmond; maternal grandmother, Ada Smith of Norfolk; and three grandchildren. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Magnolia Cemetery by the Rev. Johnnie L. White. Family and friends will assemble at 11:15 a.m. at the cemetery.
