Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, August 5, 2004 
Sylvester J. Staton , 85, of the 1700 block of Greenleaf Drive, passed away Aug.
1, 2004, at Virginia Beach Health Care. "Goldie," as he was affectionately
called, was born July 18, 1919, in Virginia. He attended Booker T. Washington
High School, Norfolk. He retired after 19 years of service as a mechanic for the
Ford plant. Sylvester was predeceased by his wife, Myrtic Staton and one son,
Albert Staton. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Helen Williams of
Norfolk; one sister, Gladys Scott of Chesapeake; one brother, Albert Weaver of
Petersburg; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; two nieces, Alfreda Staton of Baltimore, Md. and
Barbara Spotwood of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held at noon Friday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral
Service, 7246 Granby St., the Rev. John R. Davis officiating. Interment will be
at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at the chapel. To
