Born in County Mayo, Ireland, Sept. 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Anne O'Malley. She was predeceased by her loving husband, George D. Steffen. Mrs. Steffen grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, raised her family in Norfolk and was a resident of Chesapeake for the last several years. She was a homemaker, longtime member of St. Mary's Basilica, Christ the King Catholic Church and most recently Church of the Resurrection. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend, always caring for others and sharing her Irish wit. Survivors are her children, Sheila Cross and husband Jerry of Swainsboro, Ga., Georgia Steffen of Point of Rocks, Md., Maureen Harman and husband Bill of Chesapeake, Margaret Mucciola and husband Bob of Windber, Pa., George Steffen Jr. and wife Ashley of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Matt Peppers and wife Jessica of Portsmouth, O'Malley Brandt of Chesapeake, Nicole Mucciola of Philadelphia, Michael Mucciola of Windber, Pa., and Kylie and Bridget Steffen of Chesapeake. She was predeceased by a grandson, Terry Peppers; her sisters, Kathleen, Helen and Theresa and her brothers, Tom and Charlie. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church, Portsmouth, with Father Michael Boehling officiating. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Norfolk, following the Mass. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Golden Living Center, Portsmouth, and to Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care of their mother as well as the entire family.
