He was born in New York City to the late John and Estelle Rogers Stein. Mr. Stein is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carole Stein; three daughters, Susan Jarvis and husband Randy of Chesapeake, Jeanne Brooks and husband Lance of Seattle, Wash., and Patricia Flunker and husband Danny of Houston; three sons, Christopher Stein of Denver, Colo., James Stein and wife Cathleen of Aberdeen, N.J., and William Stein of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Katherine Stein of Miami, Fla.; father-in-law, William Jones of Chesapeake; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, John Stein. Known to his friends as "Jerry," he graduated from Fordham University in 1953. He was self-employed and, before moving to Chesapeake, Jerry and his family lived in Sandbridge, the Woodlands, Texas, Louisville, Ky., and Shrewsbury, N.J. Jerry was a devout Catholic who had been a member of the RCIA program at St. John the Apostle, Virginia Beach and the Catholic Church of St. Stephen Martyr of Chesapeake. He was a devoted husband, supportive father, doting grandfather and loyal friend. He will be remembered as having a rare warmth of personality and beauty of character that left a lasting impression on all who met him. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Stephen Martyr, 1544 South Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake. The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Catholic Charities, 4855 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
