Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Monday, December 29, 2003 
Dorothy Carlyle Stephens of the 3100 block of Shore Drive, died Dec. 28, 2003.

Born in Norfolk on May 20, 1909, she was the daughter of the late James Carlyle 
and Elizabeth Brown Stephens. She was a graduate of Maury High School, Class of 
1927 and attended Harrisonburg State Teachers College (now James Madison 
University). Mrs. Stephens taught in Norfolk City Public Schools for over 40 
years. She was a lifelong member of Freemason Street Baptist Church.

Two sisters survive her, Helen S. Taylor of North Carolina and Mary S. Griffin 
of Chesapeake; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Stephens will be buried in the family plot at Elmwood Cemetery Norfolk. 
Services will be private. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel is 
handling arrangements.
